Learning to pronounce Chinese is easy!
Are you thinking about learning Chinese, but learning to pronounce such an exotic language intimidates you?
Have no fear, a free resource is here! Check out the Yoyo Chinese Chinese Pinyin Chart.
Chinese phonetics background:
A single word in Chinese starts with something called an “initial” and ends with what is called a “final”. The Yoyo Chinese Pinyin Chart shows the consonant “initials” along the top of the chart. “Finals” run along the vertical side of the chart.
Oh, yeah. Chinese is a tonal language. Each initial/final combination has four tones.
But don’t sweat the tones. With practice you can sound like a native speaker!
In some of the squares where a sound is represented you’ll see a video icon. Click on that icon and a video instruction will pop-up with Yang Yang giving instructions and tips on how to clearly pronounce it.
In the inner part of the chart you’ll see a number of combinations of initials and finals. A typical example of new Chinese students is the sound “ma”. Move the cursor where “m” and “a” intersect, click on it and an audio demonstration pops up. Click on it and you’ll hear the word pronounced with the four Chinese tones.
In all there are about 413 final/initial combinations. Far fewer than the combinations of sounds in English. Fear not! You will master it!
You get what you pay for:
Even though the Yoyo Chinese Pinyin Chart is free, learning Chinese by watching random YouTube video or looking for freebies won’t get you very far.
You need something structured and well planned that will take you step-by-step.
That’s why I recommend Yoyo Chinese for online learners. This freebie is a way of introducing you to their paid products.
