Prepare for HSK 4 by reading Chinese graded readers.

Preparing for the HSK 4 examination can be a challenging yet rewarding journey, and one effective way to enhance your Chinese language skills is by delving into graded readers. “百万英镑” (Bǎi wàn yīngbàng), a Chinese Graded Reader by Yun Xian, is a gem among such resources. What makes this particular book stand out is its translation of short stories by the legendary Mark Twain, offering learners an engaging and culturally enriching experience.  If you find this book helpful, Yun Xian has written other graded readers ranging in skill level from HSK 1 all the way to HSK 6.

Why Chinese Graded Readers for HSK 4 Preparation?

Graded readers are tailored to specific HSK levels, providing learners with carefully curated texts that gradually increase in complexity. This approach allows learners to build confidence, reinforce vocabulary, and improve overall language proficiency in a structured manner.

Now, let’s delve into the world of “百万英镑” and explore its unique take on Mark Twain’s short stories.

My Interview on the “You Can Learn Chinese” podcast.

I was recently interviewed by Jared Turner, one of the founders of the Mandarin Companion Chinese graded readers and co-host of the “You Can Learn Chinese” podcast.    I’ve been a long-time fan of Mandarin Companion because I believe having graded readers is an indispensable tool for learning a foreign language.   As a result, I’ve communicated with Jared and his business partner, John Pasden, over the years.  It was a pleasure to finally meet Jared (albeit online) and talk to him about my experience studying Chinese and my experience with the immersion program at the Chinese Langauge Institute in Guilin, China.
