Learning to read Chinese characters must be a daunting challenge for foreigners because each character is unique, right?
Well, not exactly. While there are thousands of Chinese characters, they are comprised of about 214 “building blocks” called radicals. As you learn to combine the radicals, you build up words.
There’s a fun way to learn how these radicals make up characters and you can combine these characters to make different words.
Enter Yoyo Chinese Character Course levels 1 and 2. The Yoyo Chinese Character Course 1 covers three hundred Chinese characters and is hosted by Yoyo Chinese founder Yang Yang Cheng.
Yoyo Chinese Character Course 2 introduces a new host Zhiyun Zhou.
Each lesson has an engaging and clear explanation of the characters taught. Often the background of the character is given along with clever mnemonic to help you remember them.
Lessons include lecture notes and flashcards. The lecture notes not only cover the characters taught, but there are instructions on how to write the characters on practice pages. Also, you’ll see the characters you learn used in real life situations such as street signs, logos, and advertisements. A very practical approach to get reading practice!
I went through the Chinese Character Course 1 several years ago and thought it was great. So I know the Chinese Character Course II will be exceptional too!
